WHAT IT MEANS TO EMPOWER YOURSELF
To be empowered means to become stronger and more confident. This is especially relevant in terms of having control over your own life and it’s outcomes.
Being empowered can have different meanings for different people. It can involve daily activities around work, relationships, and learning new skills. It can also involve having a bigger view of your life where you feel empowered to take on bold new challenges and fulfill lifelong dreams.
Empowerment can manifest in many ways, however, the overall result is that you feel in control of your own life and the choices you can make.
Empowerment may bring visions of having the power the achieve goals and take on difficult challenges. However, before the outcomes of being empowered can be experienced, we need to undertake some initial steps within our transformation. We must develop an awareness of our current situation and take stock of our personal strengths and weaknesses. Understanding these areas will provide us with necessary insight so that we can authentically move forward in our quest to become empowered.
HOW TO EMPOWER YOURSELF
Below are a number of ways we can become more empowered in our lives:
- Identify our strengths and weaknesses. These are areas we an improve and also areas that will help us achieve our goals
- Identify the areas in our life we would like to change
- Eliminate the negative and toxic influences in our life. If this is not possible, we should seek to reduce these influences
- Implement a daily mindfulness practice to remain in the present moment and not get caught up in past hurts or future worries
- Find support
- Practice self-compassion and patience with your progress
- Develop skills in resilience
- Embrace self-care activities that care for your physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing
- Engage in creative thought experiment to encourage creativity and a sense of possibility and optimism in your life
